Knowing what products work well for your skin is only half the battle when it comes to achieving beautiful skin. The key to a perfect complexion is following your body’s natural circadian 24-hour cycle and using them at the right time. Sounds confusing? Fear not, we have created an around-the-clock skincare regime to ensure you’ll have silky smooth skin in no time…
7.00 am – have a glass of water
The skin can be sensitive when you first wake up. High levels of cortisol at this time can cause inflammation and most of us are dehydrated first thing which can worsen the tightness. Have a pint of water so your cells can function properly.
7.30 am – cleanse your skin
If your skin feels greasy just after you wake up, wash it well with a gentle cleanser to remove the sebum that has developed overnight and unblock those pores. Otherwise any creams you use will noton’t penetrate effectively and impurities will cause breakouts.
7.45 am – apply SPF
We all know that we should use sunscreen, but sometimes it’s hard to see the point on a cloudy day. However, your skin is being bombarded with UVA rays no matter what the weather so a daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is the most effective way to slow skin ageing. Apply on your cleansed skin and leave for 15 minutes before applying make-up.
12.00 pm – powder your T-zone
Your oil glands produce twice as much sebum at this time as they do between the hours of 2am and 4am, so 12pm is a the best time to powder your nose and forehead and get rid of a shiny T-zone.
4.00 pm – spray a hydrating mist
Did you know that skin temperature is approximately one degree higher at 4pm than at 4am? As your body temperature starts to rise, you might experience redness. Keep a cooling mist in your fridge to spray yourself and prevent dehydration.
6.00 pm – take your make up off
It is absolutely essential to remove all of your makeup every night! Do it before you are too tired to do it properly. The best time is when you get home from work.
9.30 pm – apply a moisturiser
This is another time of day when skin will be at its most sensitive. In addition, your skin loses around 25 per cent more water at night so it’s crucial to moisturise.
After taking your make up off, apply calming and anti-inflammatory cream, such as our Skin Balm with calming Aloe Vera and Plantolin extract.
10.00 pm – apply your overnight soothing face mask
Apply an overnight face mask as your skin is able to absorb the active ingredients in skincare products better at night, as active ingredients are less effective when exposed to sunlight. Wake up to smooth glowing skin.
Unfortunately, most of the makeup removers on the market are packed with chemicals and can cause not only irritation and redness but also breakouts. To make sure you are not removing the protective barrier that your skin has, go for organic products with no added synthetic fragrances and colours. Best way is to remove your make up naturally with ingredients you can find products containing natural ingredients such as, Olive oil which will soften your skin and get rid of the most stubborn waterproof mascara while milk will brighten your complexion.
