Trends for 2017: Comeback of essential oils

There’s no denying the plethora of benefits that essential oils have. They’ve been used for hundreds of years for multiple purposes, ranging from health and medicinal to aromatherapy and relaxation. It’s not that they were ever “forgotten” per say, but perhaps due to the abundance of new products that are constantly being created and launched everyday, essential oils may have been overshadowed. However, as more of us are rapidly reverting back to natural remedies for both wellbeing and beauty purposes, it looks like essential oils will once again be taking center stage in the New Year.

Essentials oils have always been recognized for their ability to promote relaxation, but as the number of stress and anxiety sufferers have crept up over the years, essential oils have recently been recommended to assist in managing anxiety. Why? This is because the neurons in the nose that identify scent relay the information through the olfactory nerve. In turn, this passes the information to the olfactory bulb in the brain, which plays a significantly large part in regulating emotions and moods. The best essential oils worth looking out for in 2017 to help manage anxiety are Bergamot Oil and Lavender.

Another essential oil that has grown in popularity again, and is set to continue to is tea tree oil. The Australian oil has always been renowned as an effective anti-viral and anti-fungal home remedy for skin treatments, but in the past few months there has been a rise in anti-acne creams and washes containing tea tree extract. This is because tea tree oil reduces sebum production, as well as fighting off acne producing bacteria. Research has shown that tea tree oil is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide when treating acne, but as it is a 100% natural product it doesn’t result in the negative side effects that many prescribed acne creams would.

Similarly, peppermint oil is also set to make a comeback but instead of calming or skin benefits, it’s being celebrated for its stimulating effects. More and more people are turning to this natural oil if they need to boost mental alertness, as the minty scent stimulates the hippocampus area of the brain, which determines memory, attention span and mental clarity. If taken orally, it also significantly helps with any digestions problems.

So there you have it, a few of the most popular essential oils that are set to soar in 2017!
